FAQ

Questions and answers

The questions people ask about Batwara.

Getting started

Is Batwara free?

Yes. Every feature is free. Ads pay for the app, and one purchase removes them. There is no subscription.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no account and no sign-up. Your plots and partitions stay on your phone.

Is there an iPhone version?

No. Batwara is an Android app.

How many heirs?

Up to twelve heirs per partition.

The shares

Which inheritance laws does it know?

Faraid of the Hanafi and Shafiʿi schools, the Hindu Succession Act as amended in 2005, the Indian Succession Act, the French Civil Code without a will, and equal shares. See Inheritance calculator.

Can I change the shares it calculates?

Yes. They are a starting point: every share can be changed, or typed by hand from the start.

Is it legal advice?

No. The app does not replace a notary, a mufti or a lawyer. Have the shares checked before signing.

The division

Does every lot reach the road?

With Every lot on the road, yes; if a lot cannot, the app says so instead of drawing it. See Land partition.

What about a pond, a well or a path?

A pond or a well drawn inside the plot is left out; a common path is taken out first and stays shared. Shares are counted on what remains.

Is the deed a legal document?

No. It prepares a fair division and the papers to discuss it; it is not a registered document. Have the final partition checked by a surveyor before registration.

Which units?

Acres, hectares, bigha and katha, kanal and marla, guntha, cent, ground, dismil, or a unit of your own. See Bigha, katha, kanal, marla.

Privacy

Does it upload my land or the heirs' names?

No. They stay on your phone. The network carries map tiles, address search and ads. See Privacy.

How do I get in touch?
